The Pinellas Studio Of Dance Story

The captivating journey of Pinellas Studio of Dance begins with its founder, Judith Lee (Johnson) Hughes, who opened the Judith Lee Johnson School of Dance in 1962. Recognizing the need for an accessible and enjoyable city-wide dance program, she initiated the first fee instruction class for the City of St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation Department in 1992 at Northwest Youth Center (J.W. Cate). Thus, Pinellas Studio of Dance (City Dancers) was born, expanded its reach to serve other centers, and now thrives at 7 locations in St. Petersburg and Gulfport.

In 2017, as Miss Judy decided to retire, the legacy of PSOD was entrusted to her senior instructor, Wendy Selleck, and administrator, Lisa Walker. Together, they have diligently carried on Judy's mission, providing exceptional dance instruction in a safe and FUN atmosphere to the children of Pinellas County. The studio has grown to offer diverse classes, including hip-hop, private lessons, summer camps, and a partnership with the Therapeutic Recreation Department for the St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation Department to provide line dance for special needs participants.

Renowned in Saint Petersburg and neighboring communities, Pinellas Studio of Dance is celebrated for its commitment to delivering top-notch dance training. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced dancer, seeking a dance career or simply looking for a fun and engaging exercise, we have the perfect class for you. Join us at PSOD and let the magic of dance inspire your journey!

Judith Lee Johnson Hughes

The Judith Lee Johnson Scholarship

Every year, PSOD awards a scholarship in remembrance of the studio's founder to a student who embodies the same qualities Judy displayed in her fervor for dance and worked hard to instill in every dancer: technique, work ethic, and devotion to the art.

Molly Selleck

The Molly Selleck Scholarship

To honor the memory of Molly Selleck, PSOD bestows 5 scholarships during our year-end recital. Our staff hand-picks students who exemplify the qualities that defined Molly: passion, dedication, spiritedness, and kind-heartedness.
